Traffic Tips – The Art of Conversation

August 05, 2009 By: zero2heromn Category: Pro Blogging

In the beginning I would use blog comments as a way to show my face and get potential clicks and this method worked fairly consistently. I would say something polite and informed about the content and use my Gravatar to get clicks, but I would never go back to see if I had any replies. However I was able to greatly increase the potential for commenting when I realized one thing.

Commenting is about the conversation. Sure when you are first to comment on a story you get the most exposure, but if you never return to see what other people are saying then you will miss the majority of the conversation. Instead of getting one exposure per article, you could be getting 3 or 4 just by replying to other people’s comments. Return to the site a few hours later and see if anyone replied to you. If they haven’t strike up a conversation with someone. Worst case scenario is you make a new friend and possibly gain some new readers.

Remember that sticking to a daily routine of reading, posting, and commenting is important in building your reader base, but don’t forget that you’re talking to real people and they know the difference between the guy who is posting to get clicks and the guy that they want to talk to.

  1. I can’t agree more with you on having a daily routine. Many bloggers fail because they do not stick to strategies!

  3. I’m a conversationalist in the offline world so when I comment, I like the conversation possibilities it presents. It is an amazingly good way to meet people

  4. It works best on the biggest websites, where there are 100-200 comments, however on the smaller blogs you get to know people a little better. (Bigger blogs you just talk to MORE people)

I try to always visit a persons website when they take the time to comment on mine. I’ll keep doing that until, I have too many to count :)
