Why Digg Sucks And You Should Switch to SU.PR

I’ve been using Digg for a long time now. I’ve had plenty of complaints about it, but mostly small annoying things that I would change. Today Digg announced that they have been diverting traffic by using shortened URL’s that in fact are landing pages of Digg.com. As of lately using Digg.com has become more and more annoying and I am considering spending my time somewhere else.
The change has many negative implications for publishers, including the fact that readers who think they are creating a link to your content are actually just pushing traffic to Digg.
Now Digg appears to have confirmed this questionable move was intentional. While we’ve yet to receive a response to our email, reader JD Rucker complained about the issue to Digg support and received a reply confirming the switch has been made deliberately
Here are my complaints:
1. Upon landing on Digg frontpage you see the most popular links of the day immediately to the right. Most of the time these are the articles I am most interested in. However when you click the link rather than take me directly to the page it brings me to a second Digg page, the comments.
2. Click again and now I see the page however behold the stupid DiggBar.
3. Say I navigate a few pages around the landing page, and then find another article I’d like to link to, the stupid DiggBar can only remember the URL of the first page I go to.
4. So I close it and surprise I’m right back at the first page I started.
Digg.com is a bookmarking site, a site made for bookmarking and discussion of sed bookmarks. When I click a link it should take me straight to the page that I want to see, and not anywhere else.
Toolbars are for tools. I never liked toolbars, and if I wanted to use one I would install it myself, that’s why I use Firefox. If I wanted to give websites and companies permission to invade my screen real estate with their garbage, get in my way, and slow down my internets, then I would be using Internet Explorer then wouldn’t I.
Kevin Rose did comment:

However I’ve slowly become fed up with this service, this is a good excuse for me to move on to something new and better. Until the things I previously listed are remedied I will be looking into other social bookmarking sites.
Personally Su.Pr (stumble upon’s new service) is amazing, and it offers analytic for each submission as well as posts them directly to your twitter feed for you.

I have never used Digg because it’s really annoying! I occasionally use Del.icio.us which is much better and simple! I will try su.pr
1Hello, very interesting post. I have heard Tim Ferriss mention Su.Pr on his blog and now after hearing your response to it I will give it a look. I am a noob in the blogosphere, just trying to find my feet and learning something new each day – it’s like having a full time job the amount of time you have to spend in making your blog that little bit better : )
2Kevin: That’s the best attitude and exactly how I got started. Just try to learn one thing everyday and keep optimizing and tweaking, and eventually you’ll have a really nice product.
3A SUPPORTED BY THE DEVELOPER TOOLS? It was interesting. You seem very knowledgeable in ypour field.
4will try su.pr and let you know my view..
5Maybe you could make changes to the post name title Why Digg Sucks And You Should Switch to SU.PR | Zero 2 Hero to something more generic for your blog post you create. I liked the blog post still.
